Maria Valencia was born in Huetamo, Michoacán, Mexico. Arrived in the United States when she was eight years old and is currently living in Elgin. She lives in a loving home with her husband and two children, Marisol and Leo.
Her childhood dream was to become a teacher. She had always been interested in the early education field. She made the decision to pursue her dream once she enrolled her children in daycare and became an involved parent. She was then offered the opportunity to be a part of the Ivy Academy.
It has now been over 3 years that she has been working in the Early Childhood field. She has enjoyed working with students of all ages, however, she flourished with the preschool and older groups.
Maria received her GED from Elgin Community College and, with the various opportunities and support from the Ivy Academy, she obtained her CDA. Maria will soon start her journey into obtaining Director’s credentials through the Gateways program. “I look forward to my continued growth within the Ivy Academy, as well as my educational path”.
