Kindergarten

Our kindergarten class size is intentionally small to increase student achievement. More than any other grade, kindergarten is all about the children and their first experience in the organized world of elementary education where they will be part of a school with hundreds of children at different grade levels.

The Ivy Academy of Early Learning Inc. welcomes all children, no matter where they stand, and teachers work hard to prepare them for the rigors of primary school. Young students enter kindergarten with a wide span of skills, experiences, and needs. The beginning of the year will be a combination of preschool and elementary education. Some children come ready to read, others are just learning the marvels of books, and some arrive able to write while others are still developing the coordination to maneuver a pencil.

We meet children where they’re at to guide them through the learning process, because we understand that children will develop in his or her own time. Expectations are individualized to meet their level, building a solid base for future learning experiences, and lessons are tailored to provide your child the opportunity to succeed.

Our kindergarten program allows your child to still be a youngster and expand his or her physical, academic, and social abilities through play and appropriate activities. Not all learning takes place with a paper and pencil, it can take place anywhere! Learning by play teaches academic skills, how to effectively and adequately interact with classmates, as well as how to collaborate and respect others.

Our kindergarten curriculum is tied to the Illinois Early Learning Standards, ensuring activities and expectations that are appropriate for the capabilities of young students. A great kindergarten classroom meets the needs of its diverse student population and develops the foundation for future learning experiences. We proudly collaborate with our local school district in their “Give Me Five for Learning” program, as well as several other agencies in our area.
